Quest Completes Another LEED® Certification

Quest assists City of Fort Worth in achieving prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification at the Fort Worth Central Library

Frisco, TX (PRWEB) October 25, 2012

The Fort Worth Central Library, with the assistance of Quest, announced today that it has been awarded LEED® Certified certification.

The LEED rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost programs for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

Through Quest's project efforts aimed at high building performance, the Fort Worth Central Library is projected to add approximately $218,000 to its bottom line.

“We are excited and proud to receive LEED certification for our Central Library,” said Library Director Gleniece Robinson. “This achievement underscores our commitment to provide environmentally friendly spaces for our customers and operate our facilities responsibly and efficiently. Quest was instrumental in helping us become LEED certified. “

Located in downtown Fort Worth, the city's Central Library welcomes approximately 300,000 visitors annually and directly supports all 15 city branches.
The Fort Worth Central Library achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

“Achieving LEED certification at the Fort Worth Central Library represents the city's commitment to operate its libraries in a more sustainable and cost effective manner,” said Chase Ezell, LEED AP – O+M, Quest's manager on the LEED project. “I enjoyed assisting the project team in implementing sustainable best practices at the building. Everyone on the project team, as well as the entire City of Fort Worth, should be proud of this achievement.”

The project team implemented many sustainable initiatives throughout the course of the project.
Water Efficiency

For example, a plumbing retrofit was completed saving over 225,000 gallons of water annually.
Energy & Atmosphere

Based on a thorough energy audit of the building and implementation of the recommended energy conversation measures, the building has been able to reduce electric costs by approximately $218,000 annually.

Indoor Environmental Quality

The project team worked closely with the building's janitorial contractor educating personnel on the benefits of green cleaning and helping implement LEED-approved products and equipment. 50% of janitorial products purchased during the building's performance period met LEED sustainability criteria.
Finally, the project team worked closely with library leadership and city personnel to create and implement sustainable LEED programs and policies, which were not already in place prior to starting the project.
