Panoptic Development Inc and Ride Connection are teaming up to build an open-source web application which will allow transportation providers to share information about vehicle capacity and customer demand.

Providence, RI (PRWEB) October 25, 2012

Panoptic Development, Inc is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Ride Connection to partner in the design and development of a new, open-source clearinghouse web application for demand-response transportation services.

Transportation providers each use their own systems to maintain information about vehicle capacity and customer demand. There is currently no standardized way to share this information among the various transportation providers. The clearinghouse application will facilitate and automate communication between these providers, allowing them to provide transportation services more efficiently and to more customers.

The web application, to be developed under an open source license, will allow multiple transportation providers, each with its own scheduling and dispatch software, to share information with other providers about both its available vehicle capacity and its unmet customer need. Providers will be able to submit customers for available capacity or offer their services for unmet customer need. The clearinghouse will identify potential matches between capacity and need based on time, path of travel, mobility requirements, and service eligibility.

“We are excited to be working with Panoptic Development again. Their team demonstrated a full understanding of this project and its goals, and they have a track record of good development practices and open communication that makes it a pleasure to work with them.” Kevin Chambers - IT Project Manager, Ride Connection.

Key features of the application are:

  • The ability to share both unmet need and open capacity across multiple organizations.
  • Bidirectional communication, allowing a given provider to both submit items for which another provider may respond as well as respond to the submissions of other providers.
  • Based on open interfaces and data formats.
  • An emphasis on ease of communication about trips and capacity
  • A messaging system to allow users to send and receive messaging regarding trip tickets and open capacity.

“We are delighted to be working on this project from the ground up with Ride Connection. They are breaking ground in the transportation field and we are excited to be a part of it.” - Shannon Lewis - Principal - Operations.
