Delray Beach, Florida (PRWEB) October 24, 2012

American Writers & Artists Inc. (AWAI), today announced the launch of an online resource to answer the question: What is copywriting?

Although copywriting is at the heart of a $2.3 trillion industry, not many know what copywriting is all about. That's especially true of the opportunity it gives people to start a lucrative new freelance career. There are no special qualifications, certifications, or degrees needed to become a high-paid copywriter, just some simple training.

So what is copywriting?

Simply put, copywriters write promotional materials for businesses large and small, in formats such as websites, direct mail, online advertising, catalogs, brochures, emails, social media marketing, and much more. Copywriters are much in-demand because no matter what the economy is doing, companies always have to advertise their products and services.

Copywriting is one of the most lucrative writing careers. With a very small up-front investment, a new copywriter can get up-and-running within months. And they'll have the potential to make six-figures a year. Freelance copywriters can work full-time or part-time. And they can work from home … or anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

AWAI member and freelance copywriter Starr Daubenmire recently took a lengthy trip to Italy. Copywriting gave her the ability to leave her home in the U.S. for two months and work from bed & breakfasts and rented apartments as she explored the country. As an artist, Starr was thrilled to be able to take an art class in Tuscany – a lifelong dream.

“A week's vacation from a corporate job just doesn't give you much freedom. And the trip is a distant memory before you know it,” says Starr, who embraced a copywriting career after being laid off during the recession. “But now, I've rearranged my life because I can. As a freelance writer, I have a lot of flexibility. And I recently decided to downsize so that I can travel more.”

Starr worked during her trip, a few hours in the morning for clients in the U.S., including a health publisher. She was also able to put her writing skills to use as a travel writer.

Starr is just one of the hundreds of AWAI-trained copywriters who are able to pursue their dreams. Their answer to the question “What is copywriting?” is a career that gives them the ability to spend their new-found free time to volunteer at their children's school, indulge in a favorite hobby, or hang out with family. And the financial freedom copywriting gives allows them to do that.
