MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2012) - Today, the Automotive Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC) picked the Porsche Boxster and 911 Carrera S as best in their respective "Sports - Performance (over $50k)" and "Prestige - Performance (over $75k)" categories.

"We are delighted that the Canadian Car of the Year jury recognized the all-new Boxster and 911 as outstanding choices in their category," said Joe Lawrence, President & CEO of Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. "These cars offer a winning combination of attributes ranging from performance to efficiency to surprising practicality that have always been a hallmark of the brand."

Each year, all-new cars that meet pre-determined criteria are entered in various categories. Winners from each category are announced by AJAC after their annual competition held in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Each car faced its rivals during the intensive week-long testing performed by a panel of members specifically-chosen by the association.

In addition to the 2013 Boxster, this year's competitors in the "Sports - Performance (over $50k)" category were: the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the Ford Shelby Mustang, and the Mercedes-Benz SLK. When the dust settled after the battery of tests performed on each, the Boxster emerged victorious.

Completely redesigned for 2013, the Boxster range is powered by a more powerful and efficient duo of mid-mounted horizontally-opposed six cylinder engines. The Boxster's 2.7 litre unit produces 265 hp while the Boxster S offers a 3.4 liter version generating 315 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h can be completed in as little as 5 seconds. Fuel consumption is as low as 6.2 l/ per 100 km on the highway, making the latest Boxster the most fuel efficient passenger vehicle ever offered by Porsche in Canada.

Similarly to the Boxster, the 911 faced its rivals during the intensive week-long testing performed by a panel of 15 journalist members specifically-chosen by the association. Joining the 911 on this year's "Prestige - Performance Car Over $50k" category entry list were: the BMW M5, the Chevrolet Corvette 427, and the SRT Viper. Since its introduction to the world almost 50 years ago, the 911 has continued to entice automotive enthusiasts with its unique blend of style, performance, efficiency, and practicality. These very qualities were also recognized and lauded throughout by the jurors and, as ultimately, the 911 was crowned the winner.

Now in its seventh generation, the newest 911 offers advanced technologies such as the world's first seven-speed manual transmission. Two new engines are offered, a 3.4 litre and a 3.8 flat-six, producing 350 and 400 hp, respectively. All feature direct fuel injection and an auto start/stop system which help this new sports car achieve fuel economy as low as 7 L/100 km according to Transport Canada highway figures.

In addition to these nods, the Boxster and 911 Carrera S are now eligible for the "2013 Canadian Car of the Year" title. Each category winner from this year's competition will vie to win the coveted award. The recipient of this distinction will be announced during a ceremony at the 2013 Canadian International Auto Show in February.
