NORCROSS, Ga., Oct. 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Comverge, Inc., a leading provider of Intelligent Energy Management solutions for Residential and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customers, announced today that Progress Energy Florida will utilize the IntelliSOURCE Demand Response Management System (DRMS) to migrate its EnergyWise Home residential demand-side management program from a one-way to two-way communication system. Implemented as part of the utility's Next Generation Demand Response (NGDR) project, IntelliSOURCE will centrally control more than 500,000 energy management devices from multiple manufacturers that will be deployed throughout Florida. IntelliSOURCE is Comverge's industry-leading software platform that enables automation and end-to-end support for mass-market demand response programs.

Progress Energy Florida will also use IntelliSOURCE to automate and manage the workflow required to install all 500,000 devices through the integrated work management capabilities of the software. IntelliSOURCE provides functionality that automates all the components of the installation workflow, including asset management, scheduling device installations, and testing to ensure the device is functioning properly. The Comverge IntelliSOURCE platform is also interoperable so it can manage devices from multiple manufacturers as well as seamlessly integrate with the utility's back office systems.

"Progress Energy Florida is a recognized leader in demand-side management programs and we are excited to provide IntelliSOURCE as the software platform that helps the company migrate and deploy its next-generation program that includes two-way communications between the utility and the consumer," said Blake Young, President and CEO, Comverge Inc. "We are delighted to be supporting one of the largest smart grid projects in the world. IntelliSOURCE is a proven and comprehensive software platform that has the necessary functionality to help a utility deploy large-scale programs that include technology from multiple vendors."

Progress Energy Florida provides electricity and related services to more than 1.6 million customers. In 2010, the energy provider received an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant to begin a multi-year series of investments in equipment, systems and technologies that would add "intelligence" to its electric power grid.
