Pink Makes Green at Rivers Casino
Thirty days of pink at Rivers Casino will help Susan G. Komen for the Cure see green. During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rivers Casino guests and Team Members raised more than $25,000. The donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh was generated through a series of gaming promotions, food and beverage specials, and other “think pink” initiatives, including personal contributions from senior casino executives.
The casino's Komen campaign began when guests and Team Members were encouraged to donate…brassieres. Each day, the count on the “Bra-meter” was raised, and for each bra, Rivers gave $1 to Komen. In total, more than 10,000 bras were collected and strung along the casino's riverfront trail. The bras were on display for one week and then donated to the Salvation Army.
“Collecting and hanging 10,000 bras along the Ohio River was a very visual and impressive start to our monthlong awareness campaign,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “I am so proud of our guests and Team Members for their outstanding commitment to the battle against breast cancer.”
Throughout October, guests were tickled pink by extra touches in and around the casino. The flowers in the fountains at Rivers' front entrance were dyed pink. The signature chandelier that hangs over the property's Drum Bar, visible throughout the city, was programmed to illuminate pink all month.
At the Grand View Buffet, guests who wore pink shirts on select days were eligible for a buy-one-get-one-free lunch or dinner buffet. Drink specials on Hope Wine and other pink cocktails were offered throughout the month. A portion of the food and beverage sales also went to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh.
“We appreciate all that Rivers Casino has done to help us achieve our goal of empowering all women and men of our community in the fight against breast cancer,” said Kathy Purcell, CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure Pittsburgh.
