SAN RAMON, CALIF.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

24 Hour Fitness announced today approximately $25 million in planned investments for new Bay Area clubs. Within the next six months, the San Ramon-based company will relocate and expand its Northern California locations in Livermore and Fremont and open a brand new facility in Walnut Creek next January. These developments represent one of the most substantial market investments the fitness club industry leader has made in recent years.

“The Bay Area has been home to our brand for more than 30 years, and we take pride in investing dollars toward improving the workout experience for those members who have been with us since the beginning,” said Carl Liebert, president and CEO, 24 Hour Fitness. "Over the past two years, we have opened three new Bay Area clubs and made significant enhancements, upgrades and expansions to 18 others. With the addition of these new clubs and looking forward, we intend to improve our member experience and expand our mission of improving lives through fitness to new members and communities.”

The moderately-sized 20,000 square foot 24 Hour Fitness® Active clubs in Livermore and Fremont have been part of the company's fleet for more than 16 years. Both facilities will be upgraded to 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport clubs and relocated to new addresses where they will span 45,000 to 69,000 square feet. The Livermore Super-Sport club will open on Dec. 22, 2012, at 2650 Kittyhawk Road, followed by the March 2, 2013, opening of the Fremont Super-Sport club at 4500 Auto Mall Parkway. In addition to these grand re-openings, the new and highly-anticipated 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport club in Walnut Creek will open at 2800 North Main Street on Jan. 26, 2013.

All three of the new clubs will feature the latest in amenities and equipment that 24 Hour Fitness has to offer, including:

  • Wide variety of cardio and strength training equipment
  • Personal viewing screens on select cardio machines
  • Larger functional training areas
  • TRX® Suspension Training
  • Basketball courts
  • Group exercise classes with dedicated Cycle and Group X® rooms
  • Indoor pools
  • Sauna and steam rooms
  • Complimentary towel service
  • Personal Training service
  • Kids' Club babysitting service where children ages six months up to 12 years can enjoy activities while their parents work out
  • Retail area offering fitness products, accessories, apparel, nutrition supplements and more

In 2011, 24 Hour Fitness reinvested in a number of its clubs and began a series of updates and renovations for select locations across the U.S., including many located in the Bay Area, such as Larkspur, Oakland, Petaluma, San Jose and San Mateo. In addition to these club updates, 24 Hour Fitness also opened new clubs in Pleasanton, Rohnert Park and Sunnyvale, and expanded its Santa Rosa location. Of the more than 400 24 Hour Fitness® clubs nationwide, more than 50 are in the Bay Area.

The company's Bay Area real estate news follows the expansion plans announced for its San Diego area clubs in 2011 and the recent announcement of several senior executive promotions, including Carl Liebert as president and CEO.
