Starting a Law Practice the Right Way Contributes To Happiness

MIAMI, FL - While focusing on a fun, enjoyable and rewarding approach to practicing law, RJon Robins, the founder of – the only 100% guaranteed law firm management and marketing advisory program exclusively for solo and single shareholder law firms - has showed thousands of entrepreneurial attorneys some important secrets of running a successful business, even when only just starting a law practice. The knowledge that has empowered Robins' coaching initiatives comes from his own experience as a solo law practitioner.
'Right after passing The Florida Bar Exam, I opened my own solo law firm where I did great work for my clients but promptly fell flat on my face', admits Robins. 'I worked too many hours and had little time for my family and friends; yet my practice struggled because I never learned how to market and manage the business side of a law firm – hard to believe, but they don't teach us that in law school'. According to Robins, it wasn't until he sought the help of The Florida Bar's Law Office Management Assistance Service that he started to experience some level of success. 'I called the LOMAS office so many times and worked so hard to implement many of their suggested strategies (some worked, some didn't), that they ended up offering me a job'.
It was during those years he served as a Law Practice Management Advisor for The Florida Bar helping thousands of his fellow attorneys, that Robins realized there was a lot of work to be done not only in educating new and small law practices on how to become financially successful, but also on how to do it without all the suffering and struggling. He observed a strong trend within the legal community, which valued the attorney's suffering – where conventional wisdom goes, that a lawyer should earn more if s/he suffers more and the longer the hours they work the more prestige they enjoy amongst their peers. But after learning the hard way, RJon strongly advocates 'you don't help your clients, your family or yourself by suffering – clients want and deserve value; not suffering'.
Now heading his own private solo and small law firm management advisory programs and assisting nearly one hundred members nationwide, Robins continues to prove the value of a no-suffering approach. For instance, his value-based billing proposition, which works as an alternative to the unattractive billable hour, is a practical example that value creates happiness and a better quality of life for clients, legal staff and ultimately lawyers too. 'When I learned from RJon the benefits of value-based billing, I decided to give it a try; over just a few months I was able to observe a significant profit increase, as our client retention levels increased', said Glen Malia, an attorney representing landlords in Westchester County, New York, and a member of the HowToManageASmallLawFirm program. 'And it all happened without having to add another work hour to my schedule - I never felt more rewarded in my career', he concluded.
