Worldwide Visionaries is announcing the creation of an online, multimedia project fair for young visionaries, individual students and classrooms to present innovative ideas for positive change across a wide range of social and environmental issues. Re-purposing the traditional school 'science fair' and designed for internet participation, the Visionary Project Fair welcomes visionaries from around the globe to share educational, artistic or activist-based projects they have developed to affect positive change in their communities, various fields or online. Grants and additional resources for individuals, students, and classrooms will be awarded to outstanding projects best fitting the ideals of Worldwide Visionaries.

Worldwide Visionaries is supported by Up The River Endeavors; a group of non-profit organizations and innovative thinkers brought together by social entrepreneur and visionary Kenneth Malcolm Jones. Combining their knowledge and expertise of social and environmental concerns, activism and education, URE collaboratively created worldwidevisionaries.org as a resource to empower and inspire youth to engage in dialogue about root causes of pressing issues we face today.

While the Worldwide Visionaries website features submissions year round, the Visionary Project Fair represents a focused effort to inspire new projects and ideas, and will offer an array of different awards to support participants. "We wanted to create an accessible environment where individuals and students could submit their positive ideas and projects, while encouraging them to explore the root causes of the issues they are addressing," says Carina Koury-Jones, project director, educator, and member of URE. "By initiating dialogue among a supportive group of peers, and sharing projects that consider the core issues common to many social and environmental topics, our goal is to inspire achievable and sustainable solutions on a global scale.”

Set to launch in February 2012, The Worldwide Visionaries Project Fair will offer awards in multiple categories as well as guidance and support to develop the project creator's submissions. A 'Visionaries Choice' category allows those benefiting from grant awards to 'pay it forward', giving grantees the opportunity to become grantors and actively help support other Worldwide Visionaries whom they feel have an important and worthwhile project. By providing incentives and support for these innovative ideas, URE hopes to help initiate meaningful dialogue regarding these issues and present an opportunity for students and youth to turn their good intentions into action.

About URE

Up the River Endeavors (URE) is a group of organizations and individuals brought together by Kenneth Malcolm Jones, whose personal goal is to address the fundamental question of how human beings can reconcile with nature so that we can ensure our own survival and that of other living things that share our planet. There are nine consortium member organizations and a growing number of associate members (specialists who are invited to participate in annual meetings) involved in URE. Seventy-five percent of participants are women and are decision makers in their organization. Each URE member individually addresses important issues such as gender relations, global warming, conservation, world peace and social justice. URE is collectively organized around the perspective that the various problems addressed by each member organization have in common one or more root causes. The consortium endeavors to identify and address those root causes and has initiated Worldwide Visionaries, as their most recent collaborative project, to help others join in the effort to create a world that is more balanced, peaceful and sustainable.

About Worldwide Visionaries

Worldwide Visionaries is an online resource for young people or groups to explore and exchange positive ideas on addressing pressing social and environmental problems. The website offers a social media community for individuals to promote and present their educational and activist- oriented projects, collaborate with others, obtain additional volunteers and relevant grants, and gain visibility for their projects. Users can directly engage with the project creators, offer advice, and get more information through project and user profile pages. Users can also work with Worldwide Visionary members to craft their own ideas into projects.
