Growing Project Utilizes the Flexibility of Compiere ERP System to Deliver Functionality Specific to Non-Profits and Government Organizations, Now Successfully Implemented at Hivos

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

Consona Corporation (Consona), a worldwide leader in providing customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and services for companies of all sizes, today announces an important milestone achieved by its Gold Partner and Compiere reseller, ActFact Projects BV (ActFact), who have successfully implemented the Compiere ERP solution at Hivos, as part of the ActFact FundsManagement Add-on Project (AFFM) established by the ICTU, an authority on electronic government in The Netherlands.

The ICTU's mission is to improve the work processes of the Dutch government authorities, the service provided to society and their interaction with citizens. As part of this mission, ICTU asked long-term Compiere partner ActFact to develop “ERP for ICTU” keeping in mind that it had to be generically developed for any other similar organization to use. Compiere was selected because of its OpenSource nature and the flexibility and durability that the system provides. - a first in the ERP industry.

From this project emerged the first stable release of AFFM Compiere. This release was taken into production by ICTU in 2009 for 100 users. At that same time, a non-profit government organization called Hivos joined the project.

“Hivos was working with accounting software for quite a few years,” said van Dijk. “Due to the fact that the software wasn't geared towards NGO's a whole 'shadow world of Excel' emerged and was starting to spin out of control. Users created functionality that was not available in the general organization toolbox. These islands of information combined with lack of support and migration options, lead them to seek a new platform with more flexibility and durability.”

Furthermore Hivos needed functionality that is specific for NGO's and that until then was not provided in other accounting software systems.

“Many ERP products implemented at not-for-profit organizations (NGOs) see project funding as a 'sales order' and project costs as a purchase order. This definition discrepancy worsens as you go more into the dynamics of a funds driven organization,” explains Sjoerd-Melle van Dijk, managing director, ActFact. “What's more, these organization do not make profit, but have 'unused budget' which needs to be dealt with. The flexibility that Compiere provides alongside some sponsored development made the application possible to develop and maintain.”

After some investigation Hivos selected ActFact and the Compiere software. Impressed with the work that had been done on AFFM, Hivos decided to use their budget to further drive development of AFFM towards NGO's and nonprofit-organizations.

Hivos further developed the AFFM Compiere application and went live with 150 users in January 2011 at their headquarters in The Hague and in regional offices in Southern Africa, Central America, India and Southeast Asia.

Hivos is now actively promoting this solution to other NGO's in order to co-develop more typical non-profit and governmental organization ERP functionality.

ActFact will continue to provide implementation services, support and migration services, and development on both applications.
