HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

APQC, the leading benchmarking and best practices research organization, has been named a 2011 Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Award Winner. The recognition marks APQC's second time as a Global Winner and as a new inductee for the Global MAKE Hall of Fame for achieving five consecutive years as a finalist or winner. On a regional level, APQC also garnered one of the 2011 North American Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) Awards.

Recognized for its organizational learning practices and outstanding customer value, APQC helps organizations effectively use and leverage knowledge management (KM) services, approaches, and tools to impact business results. One recent research area is helping organizations learn how to harness social media and networking platforms and to support virtual work and global teams.

"APQC continues to build a portfolio of intellectual capital assets to facilitate the transfer of best knowledge practices to customers and other stakeholders around the world. APQC acts as a 'mentor' to many of the world's leading knowledge-driven organizations," noted Rory Chase, managing director of Teleos and the MAKE Awards.

“APQC is proud to be recognized as a Global MAKE winner for the second time and as a North American winner for the seventh time,” said Dr. Carla O'Dell, president of APQC. “We are especially pleased to see so many of our active APQC members recognized as well for their achievements in knowledge management. In fact, about fifty-percent of the winners are APQC members who participate in our research and learning communities.”

The 2011 Global MAKE winners include: Accenture, Apple, APQC, ConocoPhillips, Fluor, Google, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Infosys Ltd., McKinsey & Company, Microsoft, POSCO, PwC, Royal Dutch Shell, Samsung, Schlumberger, Siemens, Tata, Toyota, Unilever, and Wikipedia.

The 2011 North American MAKE winners include: Apple, APQC, ConocoPhillips, Fluor, Google, IBM, Microsoft, MITRE, U.S. Army, and U.S. Federal Reserve System.

Cindy Hubert, executive director of APQC's Advisory Services, noted, “We have long believed that our membership has allowed us the chance to broadly disseminate our KM methods, best practices, and expertise needed to work smarter, faster, and stay competitive in a global economy. In KM alone, we have conducted more than 30 consortium studies involving more than 500 participating organizations, and have produced and implemented the world's largest body of actionable best practices in designing, implementing, and measuring KM."

Established in 1998 by Teleos, in association with The KNOW Network, the MAKE research program was created to recognize organizations for their ability to create shareholder value (or in the case of public and nonprofit organizations, to increase stakeholder value) by transforming new as well as existing enterprise knowledge into superior products, services, or solutions. The MAKE winners were selected by a panel of Fortune Global 500 business executives and leading KM and intellectual capital experts.

Earlier in 2011, APQC was named as one of KMWorld's 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management. O'Dell and Hubert also released the book, The New Edge in Knowledge: How Knowledge Management is Changing the Way We Do Business (March 2011, John Wiley & Sons).
