ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Appistry, Inc., a leading developer of cloud solutions for advanced data management, today announced the release of a series of advanced RNA-Seq solutions for the rapid analysis of sequencing data generated by this emerging technology. The TopHat, TopHat-Fusion and MapSplice-based solutions leverage the Ayrris/BIO™ high-performance computing platform to foster Personalized Medicine approaches by enabling researchers to process and analyze large volumes of data in a fraction of the time currently required by conventional gene expression profiling technologies. The RNA-Seq solutions were developed by the Appistry Life Sciences Group—recently established to conceptualize and deliver technologies for Next Generation Sequencing.

“The massive amount of sequencing data generated by RNA-Seq presents a significant bioinformatics challenge to today's life sciences researchers,” said Kevin Haar, CEO of Appistry. “Our new RNA-Seq analysis solutions, based on the Ayrris/BIO platform, provide a more aggressive approach to high-performance computing that cuts through this bottleneck to deliver faster and more accurate analysis of this valuable genomic data.”

RNA-Seq is a relatively new technology for gene expression profiling that provides significant advantages over previous methods by enabling the detection of both novel transcript isoforms and genetic polymorphisms. However, the computational demands of this sequence data, and the limitations of the analysis tools that are currently available, continues to hinder the technology's progression. Through the development of solutions that combine the benefits of off-the-shelf and custom-built functionality, Appistry will deliver a new “gold standard” for the analysis and annotation of RNA-Seq data.

Deliverables for these new RNA-Seq solutions, as outlined by Appistry's development teams, includes the following:

  • The solutions address all facets of RNA-Seq Analysis including Alignment, Transcript Assembly, Splice Variant Prediction, Expression Level Determination, SNP, Rare Variant and Indel Calling while providing the scalability to incorporate future processes.
  • RNA-Seq is applicable for the profiling of multiple species, including Human, Mouse, Rat, Zebrafish, Drosophila, E.coli, Goat, Chicken, Dog, Corn and Soybean.
  • Appistry's solutions will enable users to visualize their data in Spotfire™, Ingenuity™, GeneGo™, Excel™, the Integrative Genomics Viewer (IGV), Integrated Genome Browser (IGB) and the UCSC Genome Browser.

Future development plans for Appistry's RNA-Seq solutions include partnerships with leading sequencing companies to accelerate the efficiency of their processes and help streamline capital-intensive IT strategies. In addition, Appistry continues to promote the application of RNA-Seq and Ayrris/BIO technology in the field of personalized medicine.
