VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Strangeloop, a leading provider of web content optimization (WCO) solutions, today announced its latest product – Mobile Site Optimizer – the first website acceleration solution designed from the ground up to meet the specific needs of mobile users.

“To maximize the performance of their sites, companies should use a combination of Web content optimization, network optimization, and edge caching,” said Lydia Leong, Research Vice President, Gartner, Inc. “A combination of these techniques is particularly critical for delivering a faster mobile experience, where slow browsers, high network latency, and limited bandwidth all contribute to poor performance. Optimizing Web content for mobile devices is not the same as optimizing Web content for the desktop, and mobile-specific solutions are an important advancement in the market.”

Mobile Site Optimizer (MSO) – which is currently in beta and will be available in Q4 of this year – is the latest in a series of industry firsts for Strangeloop. The company was also the first to offer advanced site optimization via the cloud, as well as the first to integrate Google's SPDY protocol into its products.

“As industry pioneers, we've been leading the charge since the early days of front-end optimization, and we're thrilled to remain ahead of the pack when it comes to mobile,” said Strangeloop CEO Jonathan Bixby. “Our Mobile Site Optimizer isn't our desktop Site Optimizer with a new label. It's a brand-new product that was built from the ground up to respond to the many unique challenges of mobile environments.”

Companies such as eBay, PayPal, Visa, PETCO, and Travelocity use Strangeloop's advanced optimization solutions to accelerate their websites and enterprise applications. As a result, these companies have seen significant growth in key performance indicators such as online revenue, conversions, page views, customer retention, productivity, and Google search ranking.

“Our customers are demanding mobile acceleration,” said Mark Taylor, VP of Content and Media, Level 3. “Our relationship with Strangeloop has allowed us to combine the benefits of performance optimization into simple packages that help us deliver faster content to our customers' end users. We're extremely happy to be able to offer even faster acceleration for mobile users.”

“Using the Mobile Site Optimizer, we've seen a 50 percent performance improvement on our site,” said Parag Patel, CTO, AutoAnything. “Any speed improvement inevitably results in higher conversion. The benefits of mobile acceleration couldn't be more clear.”

“We've had positive results with Strangeloop's desktop Site Optimizer, which cut our page load times by half and helped increase customer retention,” said John Lazarchic, VP of E-Commerce, Petco. “We strive to provide our customers with the best possible shopping experience, whether in our stores, online or via our mobile site, and we look forward to seeing new ways Strangeloop can help us deliver that experience.”

The Challenge: Mobile devices, browsers and networks are limited, but user expectations continue to grow.
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all WCO solution. Solutions designed to optimize sites for desktop users can slow down, or even break, sites for mobile users. At the same time, user expectations have never been higher. Most people expect sites to load at least as fast on their mobile devices as they do on their desktop.

Mobile-specific websites offer only a partial solution to these challenges. When presented with a mobile-specific site, one out of three users will select the “See full site” option. Yet front-end solutions that have been designed to accelerate sites for desktop browsers can slow down, or even break, sites on mobile browsers. Site owners need a solution that will accelerate the full site for mobile users.

How the Strangeloop Mobile Site Optimizer works
Mobile Site Optimizer – which is available as an appliance or as a service via the cloud – makes sites faster, automatically. Mobile Site Optimizer does not change the design of a website. Instead, it transforms the site and makes it as fast as possible – without touching servers, networks, or client browsers.

Mobile Site Optimizer is not a repackaged set of desktop optimization solutions. Instead, it was built from the ground up, leveraging features inherent in HTML5 and Google's SPDY protocol to address the unique challenges of mobile environments.

Strangeloop has developed 11 advanced treatments that break new ground in mobile performance optimization, making pages up to 60% faster. These proprietary treatments include:

  • Mobile SuperCache – Leverages an HTML5 feature called Local Storage to create a mobile browser cache that is comparable to a desktop cache
  • Touch Event Conversion – Automatically converts click events to touch events, relieving the mobile browser of the realtime overhead of click-to-touch translation
  • Dynamic Payload Decision Making – Recognizes if a user is visiting via Wifi or 3G/4G and customizes site optimizations so they do not consume unnecessary data
  • Just-In-Time HTML – Detects pages with unusually large HTML and rewrites code so it downloads first, and then parses and renders

About Strangeloop
Strangeloop is a leader in providing Web Content Optimization (WCO) solutions that enable global ecommerce companies like eBay, PayPal, Petco, Travelocity and Visa to speed up the page load times of their websites and enterprise applications. As the first entrant in the WCO space, Strangeloop was first to market an automated solution – the Strangeloop Site Optimizer – with the ability to tackle front-end performance problems as a service via the cloud. Site Optimizer, which is also available as a hardware appliance, simplifies Web Content Optimization from a lengthy and complex coding process into an automated function. Strangeloop was also the first company to integrate Google's SPDY protocol into its product offerings. Strangeloop is based in Vancouver, BC. For more information, visit www.strangeloopnetworks.com.
