Safety Gas Detection Wins Two New Service Contracts at The University of Manchester

Safety Gas Detection - manufacturers, installers and servicers of gas monitoring systems - has won two contracts to service six laboratories at The University of Manchester.

The company, based in Leyland, in Lancashire, will service the oxygen depletion gas detection systems across several departments of the university as part of an annual maintenance contract.

Work will involve replacing parts such as batteries and sensors of the gas detection systems along with calibrating and routine testing of equipment.

Tim said that the gas monitoring systems his company provides can also switch on ventilation, shut down gas supplies and provide signals to a client's other systems, including e-mailing and text-messaging (SMS) key individuals.

“Our web remote access option allows our team to dial into our clients' systems from our offices to assist with alarm activations in real time. Gas levels are recorded (data-logged) to memory which can be recalled at a later date for analysis on a PC,” said Tim.

“The control panels of our systems are highly visual and feature a colour touch screen display. This shows clearly the safety status of the areas that we are monitoring.

“Whilst the systems do use highly complex monitoring software, they do not require user input, and run extremely reliably 365 days per year. An annual maintenance and calibration check is all that is usually required for the system to function satisfactorily for many years,” he added.

Tim said that there is no scientific formula to calculate how many sensors are needed to cover an area as this depends upon a variety of factors - the type of gas(es) causing the hazard, dimensions of the room, provision of natural ventilation etc.
