New Poll Finds High School Spanish Teachers Place A High Value On International Travel For Career Development

97 Percent of High School Spanish Teachers Planning To Travel According To The National Educational Travel Council (NETC)

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 23, 2010 -- A recent poll conducted by the National Educational Travel Council (NETC) finds that 97 percent of high school Spanish language teachers view travel to a Spanish-speaking country as critical to their career growth.

"The best way to truly improve your foreign language skills is to spend time in a country where that language is the native tongue," said NETC Executive Vice President Justin Sockett. "No one understands this better than foreign language teachers."

NETC polled hundreds of United States high school Spanish teachers from 37 states. Of all of the teachers surveyed, only four have not been to a Spanish-speaking country, but 100 percent plan to visit a Spanish-speaking country in the future, with Spain and Argentina being the most desirable destinations.

"NETC has organized highly successful educational tours for hundreds of thousands of teachers and students over the past 17 years and without fail, the teachers on the trips express a desire to return for their own enrichment," said Sockett. "As a result of this feedback, we are increasing the number of educational programs just for teachers that we offer."

NETC has partnered with nationally recognized Spanish educator and author Professor Tom Alsop to offer the Aventura Cultural enrichment immersion program for high school and middle school Spanish teachers http://www.educationaltravel.com/PR/Aventura-Cultural.aspx. The two-week program to Spain or Mexico gives teachers a chance to interact with local teachers, learn first-hand about the countries' fascinating culture, and allows teachers to dramatically improve their language skills through immersion. Teachers live with a local host family, receive one-on-one Spanish instruction, work on mini-methods, and have the opportunity to create a personal culture project to use for classroom lessons.

Teachers also have the opportunity to earn three full hours of graduate credit in Spanish from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
