JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The concerns of property insurance and the perils facing the industry and consumers are some of the key issues to be addressed at the Eleventh Annual Windstorm Insurance Conference, set for January 25-28, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront in Jacksonville, Florida.

Opening general session keynote speakers (Jan. 26, 9 -10:15 am) include National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read, who will review the Atlantic hurricane season and discuss what really happened in 2009. He will address how the season compares to historical trending, what can it tell us about the future, and how can we make sure we’re ready for the next big one.

Staying positive in tough times is the focus of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger’s motivational presentation, “How Does the Industry Stay Sharp in a Down Market?” Drawing from his inspirational story, which was immortalized in the blockbuster film, Rudy, Ruettiger will inspire and motivate attendees on how to overcome obstacles and succeed in life’s toughest moments.

In the closing general session (Jan. 28, 9 - 11am), Terry Butler, senior attorney from Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate office, will present “What Works Best for Consumers?” He will also update attendees on the recent developments of the Insurance Consumer Advocate Roundtable meetings. A question and answer session will allow for audience participation.

An Appraisal and Umpire Symposium will conclude the conference. The panel discussion will feature professionals from the appraisal and umpire industry, who will focus on an unbiased look into the current trends, problems, and future of the property insurance appraisal process. Topics to be covered include how can the insurance community continue to make this process fair and objective? Can appraisal survive in today’s economy? Will litigation help or hinder the appraisal process?

More than 1,200 property insurance professionals are expected at the three-day event, which is hosted by the Windstorm Insurance Network, Inc. (WIND) (association website: www.windnetwork.com and 2010 conference website, www.windconference.com).

The conference, which is co-sponsored by the American Bar Association/Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), is designed to provide a variety of general sessions and workshops for all segments of the windstorm insurance industry, including insurance agents, insurance company claim managers, adjusters, risk managers, attorneys, accountants, contractors, engineers, and other experts and consultants.

By bringing together all segments of the occupations that deal with the aftermath of a windstorm, the 2010 WIND Conference seeks to develop and promote a greater understanding of windstorm issues among property insurance professionals. Approximately 1,400 people attended the 2009 WIND Conference in Orlando, Florida.

In addition to keynote presentations, around 30 professional workshops will focus on important issues and developments arising out of past hurricane seasons. Topics include building code updates, commercial losses, examinations under oath, appraisals, condominium losses, estimating and scoping damage, and property insurance law updates, among others.

The 2010 WIND Conference will offer an expanded continuing education (CE) program with general sessions and workshops that provide credits to insurance agents, adjusters, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and for several professional disciplines in multiple states. Certifications will also be offered by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the Windstorm Insurance Network Umpire Certification Program.
