Judges Announced For Prestigious Benzinga Fintech Awards Competition


Detroit, Michigan - March 2, 2016 - Benzinga, a leading online financial media platform and service headquartered in downtown Detroit, announced today the names of the fintech leaders who will be judging this year’s Benzinga Fintech Awards, a competition and gala dedicated to recognizing innovation in financial services and capital markets.

Returning to New York City on May 24, the premier fintech event will crown winners for categories such as "Best Research Platform" and "Best Robo Advisor & Wealth Management Tool."

To judge the future of fintech, Benzinga has brought together five experts in the areas of finance, markets, quantitative analysis and alternative investments. Here’s a look at who will be picking this year’s winners:

Nicole Sherrod (@TDANSHERROD)
Managing Director, Trading at TD Ameritrade

Nicole Sherrod is responsible for the growth of the transactional trading business at TD Ameritrade. She oversees product development for the thinkorswim, Trade Architect, and TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader platforms.

With more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Sherrod is frequently called upon to be the expert voice for retail sentiment and technology trends in top business news outlets. She was named to Benzinga’s Top 20 Financial Pundits To Follow On Twitter.

Michael Maxworthy (@MMaxworthy)
Partner, Marlin & Associates

Michael (Max) Maxworthy has 18 years of investment banking and private equity experience in advising middle market companies in sectors such as Financial Technology, Online Databases and Content, Enterprise Software, Digital Media, and eCommerce. In 2007 and 2008, Max was named to Investment Dealer's Digest's Magazine's "40 Under 40" list of top international deal-makers.

Max joined Marlin & Associates Holding LLC as a Founding Partner where he advised on many successfully concluded mergers, acquisitions, capital raises, and valuations.

Matt Ober
Co-head of Data Strategy, WorldQuant

Matt Ober is the co-head of data strategy at WorldQuant, a leading global quantitative investment firm. Prior to joining WorldQuant, Matt worked as an equities and derivatives analyst at Bloomberg. He’s a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, and was a contributing author to the book “Options for Volatile Markets: Managing Volatility and Protecting Against Catastrophic Risk”.

Ross Garon
Managing Director, Cubist Systematic Strategies

Ross Garon is a Managing Director at Point72 Asset Management, L.P., and the head of Cubist Systematic Strategies, LLC, the Firm’s Quant business.

Before Point72, Ross was the Co-Founder and Managing Member of Tykhe Capital LLC. He began his career in quantitative finance at D. E. Shaw & Co in New York, London and Tokyo. Mr. Garon also served as head of global business management at Commerzbank’s equities division.

Matt Harris (@mattcharris)
Managing Director, Bain Capital Ventures

Matt started his investing career at Bain Capital private equity in 1995, having worked previously at Bain & Company. In 2000, Matt founded Village Ventures, which he ran for 12 years and where he focused on early-stage fintech investing. In 2012 he re-joined Bain Capital Ventures. In 2015, Matt was ranked number 3 on Institutional Investor’s “Fintech Finance 35” list.

He sees a huge amount of revenue, profit and market cap shifting from regulated financial institutions to entrepreneur-led insurgents, across payments, lending, capital markets and insurance.
