A new phone and broadband service launches today, offering homeowners green, superfast home phone and broadband at a great value price.

ECOminutes, from performance improvement company Grass Roots, has launched an extremely competitive broadband and phone portfolio, with packages starting from £10.00 per month. ECOminutes has contracted with Opal, part of the TalkTalk Group, as its broadband and phone provider.

The superfast service offers up to 24Mbps broadband speed and a huge monthly download limit of 100GB, enabling households with more than one laptop or PC to surf simultaneously, whilst 1Mbps upstream capacity allows rapid upload of files and documents. In addition, a FREE static IP address, considered essential for peer to peer gaming, is available on request at no extra cost.

Unlike other phone and broadband products, ECOminutes offers some added eco bonuses. Customers receive a free energy efficient wireless router which uses just 8 watts of electricity, helping customers to keep energy usage down, especially as most people leave routers on 24/7. The router helps lower household electricity bills, without compromising performance.

ECOminutes will also offset the equivalent of up to a tonne of carbon for each customer that signs up, having calculated the carbon footprint of the ECOminutes phone and broadband service. This is invested in an Energy Efficient Stoves Project in Kenya, a Gold standard carbon offset project.

In association with carboncreditz, ECOminutes offers customers green rewards for paperless billing and works with them to reduce their carbon footprint further by offsetting against a variety of projects, purchasing energy efficient items, or helping in their local community.

The business grade service gives ECOminutes customers priority service, which means that the service does not slow down at busy periods when greater numbers of users are online.

And if there's still time to talk, ECOminutes customers can also enjoy unlimited calls to any UK landline during evenings and weekends, making use of the variety of bundles on offer.

The new ECOminutes phone and broadband service supports consumers in offsetting their own carbon footprint. In addition, it supports the Government's desire to make superfast broadband available to around 90 per cent of households in the UK by 2012. This should help reduce traffic and CO2 emissions, as more commuters will be able to start working from home.
