The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) Selects Hara to Drive Energy Efficiency for More Than 200,000 Facilities across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

COP16 – Hara, a leading provider of environmental and energy management software, today announced that it has signed a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), the largest state-run utility in the United Arab Emirates. The efficiencies gained from the Hara™ Environmental and Energy Management (EEM) deployment are expected to save the Emirate of Abu Dhabi 3 Billion USD over 10 years. Peak demand reductions resulting from the deployment are estimated to be over 4 gigawatts (GW) in 2020, allowing for deferred construction of several 500 megawatt (MW) conventional natural gas power plants. Total annual energy savings are projected to top 12,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) by 2020**. This would save almost ten million tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to taking 1.9 million cars off the road.

Hara will serve as the primary environmental and energy management technology partner for ADWEA's far reaching sustainability initiative. The Hara EEM implementation will provide system-wide consumption monitoring as well as conservation and efficiency investment modeling for over 200,000 commercial and residential facilities. By providing a holistic view of energy consumption in the region, the solution enables the identification, prioritization and tracking of energy efficiency projects on an unprecedented scale. Hara EEM will also serve as the core technology platform for optimizing Abu Dhabi's energy and electricity use, its greenhouse gas emissions and will provide advanced analytical support for the implementation of the region's smart grid and alternative energy investments.

“The Emirate of Abu Dhabi plans to set new standards for water and electricity services in the region over the next five years through the application of innovative technologies,” said ADWEA Chairman, His Highness Sheikh Diab Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. “The Abu Dhabi economy is achieving rapid growth which makes it vital for us to make the best use of our natural resources. Our new environmental and energy management solution from Hara will facilitate and accelerate the implementation of alternative strategies for energy efficiency and natural resources using optimal sustainable methods, as well as reduce the Emirate's carbon footprint and energy consumption for the benefit of present and future generations."

ADWEA supplies electricity and potable water to the population of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi including the cities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. ADWEA serves more than 1.4 million people, representing more than 39% of the UAE's total population, over an area of approximately 67,340 square kilometers, about 87% of the UAE's total area. ADWEA is managed by a board of management chaired by His Highness Sheikh Diab Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“Hara is honored to be selected as a key partner in Abu Dhabi's ambitious program to lead the United Arab Emirates in innovation and sustainability”, said Amit Chatterjee, CEO and Founder, Hara. “We are inspired by ADWEA's bold leadership in the utility sector in addressing energy consumption and natural resource conservation and we are excited by the milestone this represents for the environmental and energy management space. As ADWEA's partner, we're even more proud of the role we get to play in helping them achieve sustainable outcomes for present and future generations.”
