The Web Host Industry Review, the leading resource for information on the web hosting industry, is excited to announce that the October 2010 issue of its Web Host industry Review magazine has shipped, offering readers insight into creating a product that can help them capture a part of the lucrative market for cloud hosting services.

In a cover story that addresses the hottest product set in the hosting market right now – and undoubtedly the next few years – the October issues takes readers through their “Cloud Opportunities,” examining several of the models of cloud hosting most applicable to the small business market, as well as asking some detailed questions about the requirements for creating those offerings.

“Smaller hosting providers – those without the resources to develop a cloud infrastructure of their own, are left with some very specific questions about the opportunity in the cloud,” says WHIR editor Liam Eagle, in the October issue's letter from the editor. “What exactly is the nature of the cloud-based services small businesses are so eager to buy? What exactly can a small hosting operator get away with calling a cloud service? How much of what distinguishes a cloud is purely semantic? Are there pre-made tools for building and delivering a cloud infrastructure? Are there opportunities to resell the cloud infrastructure of larger providers? What, ultimately, are my cloud-based products going to look like.”

In that cover story on the cloud, Eagle attempts to better define the opportunity in the cloud market for smaller hosts. The story looks at understanding customers and defining the cloud relative to their needs. It examines the potential for building a cloud infrastructure, and the tools available to do so. It evaluates the opportunity in cloud storage, and looks at some specific examples of cloud offerings for small business.

“Everybody's telling the hosts that they need to be on top of the cloud market, that there's a gold rush opportunity here they're missing out on if they don't have a product in place,” says WHIR publisher Stephen Mayhew. “We're trying to help these hosts sift through the noise and walk away with some advice they can really take action on.”

Other articles throughout the issue touch on other aspects of the cloud. An interview with several executives from pioneering cloud host Go Grid touches on a range of ideological and technical elements related to the cloud. WHIR analyst David Hamilton contributes a feature on how hosting providers might have to adapt their marketing efforts to suit cloud offerings. And legal columnist David Snead offers a guide to preparing a cloud contract.

Taken together, the content of the October 2010 issue of WHIR magazine should provide hosts with a valuable overview of the opportunity that exists for them to profit from providing cloud hosting solutions to small businesses.

The October 2010 issue of WHIR Web Hosting magazine, along with all if its back issues, is available in an online edition, which can be accessed through the WHIR website.
