The Powerful Reach of the Financial Services Industry

The number of people working in the New York City financial services industry is shrinking. As of August 2011, data shows that some 166,000 people are employed by financial services industries, and that number will contract into the end of the year and January. Many markets have experienced challenging years and regulation obviously is on the rise, and that will require the knife to be wielded come budget planning time. What I have always found so interesting is the power to influence lives across the country and globally from a single financial hub. Technological innovation and more advanced degrees have only increased that power. Just think, slightly over 150,000 people in New York City help to shape the lives of 312 million in the U.S. and over 6 billion worldwide. Now that is both power and a good explanation among many for the Occupy Wall Street movement. For me, it inspires to put every ounce of effort beyond the point of exhaustion (like Rocky Balboa put it: “that's how winning is done.”) in our soon to launch
