Why Sheryl Sandberg Won't Leave Facebook For Uber

Sheryl Sandberg left her job as vice president of global sales and operations at Google ((parent company, NASDAQ:GOOG) GOOGL) to join Facebook Inc FB and serve as its chief operating officer in 2008. But perhaps more important, her job at Facebook provided the necessary leadership to help transform Facebook's co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision into a reality.

Sandberg's experience and leadership makes her a very attractive candidate to fill the now vacant CEO role at Uber — but Facebook investors could breathe a sigh of relief as she has no desire to leave the social media company, a Bloomberg report stated.

According to a "person familiar with the matter," Sandberg has no desire to leave her job as second-in-command at Facebook.

Who Is Available?

The New York Post similarly reported that Sandberg is Uber's first choice as replacement CEO, but if reports that she is staying put at Facebook are true, there are other options on the table.

Tom Staggs, a former operating chief at Disney, already interviewed with Uber, the New York Post noted. Other names up for consideration including ex-Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, Helena Foulkes, an ex-CVS Health Corp CVS executive, AOL's CEO Tim Armstrong and Turner CEO John Martin.

Recode added to the list several long-shot candidates, including Susan Wojcicki, YouTube's current CEO; two former Ford Motor Company F CEOs, Alan Mulally and Mark Fields; former eBay Inc EBAY CEO John Donahoe; and Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN global operations and customer service chief Dave Clark.
