Renee LaRoche-Morris recognized for professional achievement and service to her community

NEW YORK, April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- BNY Mellon Wealth Management's Chief Financial Officer Renee LaRoche-Morris has been named one of the top 25 influential black women in business by The Network Journal. TNJ, which focuses on black professionals and small business owners, launched the annual award in 1999. Each year it honors 25 accomplished black women who have had significant impact on their industry or profession and have given back to their community. LaRoche-Morris recently accepted her award at a TNJ luncheon in New York.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management CEO Don Heberle and Stephen Scott, CFO for BNY Mellon Investment Management, co-nominated LaRoche-Morris for the award.

"We're delighted that The Network Journal has recognized Renee for the dedicated and exceptional professional that she is. She is truly deserving of this honor," Heberle said.

"Renee is a great leader and has a tireless commitment to supporting diversity, as well as serving her community, her team and her peers," added Scott, who is her manager. "We are delighted to see her recognized this way."

Award candidates must be nominated by someone in their profession. A committee of award judges bases its selection on nomination forms and letters of recommendation for each candidate. Typical candidates are business owners, senior executives or women entrusted with significant decision-making authority in a corporation or nonprofit.

LaRoche-Morris, who is a managing director with direct oversight of BNY Mellon's wealth management business, has worked in financial services for more than 20 years at several top corporations. She oversees a team of professionals who support business growth and risk management by tracking and analyzing the firm's financial activity and ensuring the accuracy of the company's financial results.

"I was so honored to be recognized with such an amazing cohort of accomplished women," LaRoche-Morris said. "It was a wonderful event and I was thrilled to share it with my family, friends and colleagues."

In an interview, LaRoche-Morris told The Network Journal that she enjoyed financial services because "It's like a big logic game and I like solving problems." She credits her family and upbringing for equipping her to succeed: "I was raised in a household that encouraged independence and accountability from an early age," she told TNJ. "Learning to rely on myself and knowing I was accountable for my actions helped me develop courage, a strong work ethic, resiliency and understanding—all of which benefit me daily."

LaRoche-Morris earned a bachelor's degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia, an MBA with double concentration in finance and marketing from Columbia Business School.  She is a leader in BNY Mellon's highly developed Diversity and Inclusion strategy and serves on the board of Teaching Firms of America—Professional Preparatory Charter School.
