Grant from The Sallie Mae Fund Will Support College Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Military Servicemembers

The Sallie Mae Fund, the charitable arm of Sallie Mae®, today reinforced its commitment to military servicemembers and their families with a $50,000 grant to Folds of Honor. The grant from The Sallie Mae Fund will support college scholarships to children and spouses of disabled and fallen military servicemembers. Since 2014, The Sallie Mae Fund has contributed more than $320,000 to Folds of Honor.

"Through the support of partners like Sallie Mae, we are able to continue honoring the sacrifices of our country's fallen and disabled servicemembers by providing their families with access to higher education," said Allen Wronowski, director, Folds of Honor. "Even in these times of uncertainty, we remain steadfast in our mission to honor the legacy of our nation's heroes and kindle brighter futures for their loved ones."

"This Memorial Day, we are proud to honor the sacrifices made by our brave servicemembers and are privileged to stand alongside Folds of Honor in supporting their families' pursuit of post-secondary education," said Tim Hanrahan, senior vice president of customer operations, Sallie Mae. "Even as COVID-19 has caused much uncertainty and presented many challenges to daily life as we know it, we are inspired by the resilience and determination of our servicemembers' families to continue making post-secondary education happen. And, through these scholarships, we are honored to give back and help them build their prosperous futures for the brighter days that lie ahead."

Sallie Mae demonstrates its commitment to veterans and servicemembers year-round with resources and benefits, beyond what is required by federal or state law, for customers and employees in the military. The company employs a team of specially trained customer service advisors who work with military families to provide personal assistance. This dedicated group can help customers with military benefits, make arrangements for their loans while they are deployed, and support them as they transition back to school or into repayment.

For Sallie Mae employees on active military duty, the company offers flexible scheduling and time off for training and deployment. This includes time to make financial, legal, childcare, parent care, and other arrangements necessitated by the employee's service. These efforts have been recognized by the Delaware Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, which presented the Pro Patria Award, its highest honor, to Sallie Mae in 2018.
