ADP Canada National Employment Report: Employment in Canada Decreased by 16,000 Jobs in May 2019

TORONTO, June 20, 2019 /CNW/ -- Employment in Canada decreased by 16,000 jobs from April to May according to the May ADP® Canada National Employment Report.  Broadly distributed to the public each month, free of charge, the ADP Canada National Employment Report is produced by the ADP Research Institute®.  The report, which is derived from actual ADP payroll data, measures the change in total nonfarm payroll employment each month on a seasonally-adjusted basis.

"May experienced a sharp decline," said Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute.  "Construction was the primary driver for the weak numbers in May, likely due to the downward trend in housing starts and a slowdown in sales activity. Education also experienced sizable losses, while smaller declines across a number of other industries cancelled out any employment gains."

 

 

The April total of jobs added was revised down from 61,700 to 24,000.
