MINNEAPOLIS, May 07, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On April 23, 2019 KARE 11 was honored with eight Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the highest achievement awarded for Overall Excellence.
The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism.

Honored for significant contributions to the media industry and local community, reporter Boyd Huppert received an Excellence in Writing award along with 3 Edward R. Murrow Awards for Feature Reporting, Sports Reporting and Hard News. Boyd's passion for storytelling has helped redefine journalism, through work like "Land of 10,000 Stories." Recognized along with Boyd Huppert are photojournalists Chad Nelson, Kevin Sullivan, Rob Collett, Jeff Wiltgen, Ferlon Webster Jr., Adam Jukkola and Jason Steussy.

In addition, reporter A.J. Lagoe and the KARE 11 Investigates Team took home 3 awards for News Series, News Documentary and Investigative Reporting. This included honors for "A Pattern of Denial," a two-year investigation exposing the Department of Veterans Affairs for wrongly denying legitimate emergency medical claims, leaving veterans stuck with bills they should not owe.

KARE is the only TV station in the Twin Cities market to be selected as a Regional Murrow winner in any category. Winners automatically advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition to be announced in June.
