Careers in Chemistry is designed to help high schoolers better understand the impact chemistry has in our everyday lives, and how a chemistry degree can lead to a rewarding career. Designed exclusively for Minecraft: Education Edition, students will have the chance to explore several traditional and non-traditional jobs through immersive game play.

"Chemistry can be a scary subject for students – but it doesn't have to be," says Dr. Kate Biberdorf, who is known as "Kate the Chemist" and whose explosive demonstrations have been featured on national news and talk shows. "With Careers in Chemistry we want to show students that chemistry plays a vital role in our lives and that chemistry is fun, and that chemistry jobs are obtainable."

"This innovative project represents one way the UT System supports UT institutions in the work they do to help K-12 students be ready for college," says Rebecca Karoff, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the UT System. "Students will have an amazing opportunity to investigate an array of jobs in the field of chemistry, while simultaneously learning about pathways to college chemistry programs."

Careers in Chemistry is underwritten by the UT System as part of its work with UT institutions to develop quality prototypes and pathways enabling students from middle school through university to cultivate critical literacies they will need to be successful in the knowledge economy. Austin-based education agency, DISCO Learning Media, provided instructional and media content support.
