DOVER, Del., Nov. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tidewater Environmental Services, Inc. (TESI)  announced a land deal approved by the Milton Town Council that will enable TESI to build a new wastewater treatment plant off Sam Lucas Road in Milton, DE.  The Town of Milton has deeded 5 acres to TESI with construction of the new plant to begin in about one year.

The existing wastewater treatment plant and sewer system was acquired by TESI in 2007 through a public private partnership. Working together, the Town and TESI have been able to support growth plans, protect tax payers and fulfill the needs of proposed developments over the last 11 years. Mayor Ted Kanakos commented, "After 11 years of continuous negotiations, we are finally moving forward with increased services in the Town of Milton.  This is a win-win for everyone. The Milton Town Council is pleased that Tidewater Environmental Services is moving forward to relocate off the Broadkill River."

It is now necessary to update the plant's technology as a result of new nutrient removal requirements issued by the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.  The new requirements include specific limitations for nitrogen and phosphorous levels. When completed, the new plant will comply with regulatory requirements, provide greater operational efficiencies, and accommodate future growth of Milton's service area. The existing plant, located on Front Street, will be demolished once the new plant is operational.  The Front Street tract will be returned to the Town for future beneficial uses.

TESI President, Jerry Esposito said "We look forward to continuing to support Milton's growth plan as well as complying with new regulatory requirements with the new plant. Additionally, Milton will be able to use the property on Front Street to better serve its residents."

TESI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Middlesex Water Company  MSEX, was established in 2005 and provides regulated wastewater service in Sussex County to the Town of Milton and 8 other communities.  For more information about TESI, visit www.tuiwater.com
