Grant will help fund educational activities to benefit more than 1,000 children

Fiserv, Inc. FISV, a leading global provider of financial services technology solutions, today announced that Aleksandra (Aleks) Gren, country head of Poland at Fiserv, has received the 2018 Goldman Sachs-Fortune Global Women Leaders Award. Gren was recognized for her active role in empowerment, advocacy and mentoring, as well as her concept for a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education program for female refugees in Greece. She also received a $25,000 grant to help fund STEM educational activities to benefit more than 1,000 children in Greek refugee camps.

Gren accepted the award from David Solomon, CEO, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., at the recent Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit. Now in its eleventh year, the award is a partnership between the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women program and Fortune. It is given to outstanding women from around the world who are creating social impact projects to empower others in their communities and countries.

"The introduction of STEM programs to young refugee women in Greece has the potential to make a real and lasting impact on people's lives," said Solomon. "The work Aleksandra is spearheading exemplifies global leadership in business and beyond."

"Aleksandra is an example of how we can each use our skills to give back in our communities and the world, which is what the Global Women Leaders Award is all about," said Leigh Gallagher, senior editor at large, Fortune.

Gren, a past participant and alumni in the Fortune-U.S. State Department Mentoring Partnership program, has been active in empowering women in finance and technology, which led to her involvement in promoting STEM education programs to refugees internationally.

"Through personal experience and my work in financial services technology at Fiserv, I have seen what a powerful enabler STEM education is for women," said Gren. "Introducing girls in refugee camps to computer programming and coding enables them to take positive steps to build their own futures."

At Fiserv, Gren's responsibilities include organizing, structuring, and leading technology initiatives for major EMEA-based financial institutions, with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Throughout her 23-year career, she has championed innovation for continued infusion of banking and technology in many economies around the globe.
