Bringing together alternative fuel and clean transportation advocates from across the state, New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), in partnership with NGVAmerica, hosted the kick-off to the 2018 Drive NatGas Sea to Shining Sea Road Rally, a 17-stop national tour aimed at educating the public on the benefits of natural gas use in transportation.

The rally, which began at NJNG's CNG Refilling Station in Freehold, NJ, will make stops over the next four weeks and conclude at NGVAmerica's 30th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Industry Summit in Palm Springs, California on November 14.

"The benefits of alternative fuel vehicles are as compelling as ever, providing greater fuel diversity to strengthen our economy and reduce the emissions of the transportation sector," said Tom Massaro, Senior Vice President for Marketing, Customer Service and Energy Efficiency of New Jersey Natural Gas. "Together with NGVAmerica and clean energy partners from throughout New Jersey, we are proud to shine a spotlight on natural gas vehicles and the transformational benefits the alternative fuels market offers to both our economy and environment."

A low-cost domestic fuel option, natural gas delivers the largest and most cost-effective reductions in transportation-related pollutants than any other powertrain option commercially-available today. Natural gas currently powers passenger vehicles, medium-duty work vehicles, short- and long-haul trucks, school buses, transit buses and shuttles, refuse trucks, construction and mining equipment, marine vessels and locomotives.

"Clean air starts with clean vehicles, and the cleanest heavy-duty engine in the world runs on natural gas," said Dan Gage, President of NGVAmerica. "We are fortunate to have partners here locally who understand the importance of implementing affordable natural gas solutions in everyday life. And we ask local elected officials and policy makers to join with them to promote and increase natural gas use in transportation that will result in protecting our environment, cleaning our air, and expanding our economy."

Natural gas vehicles (NGVs) are powered by American fuel, American technology and American innovation. They have the cleanest well-to-wheels emissions profile of any fuel on the market today, and NGVs are making a difference through a variety of applications – trucks, trash, transit, even marine and rail.

In addition, Shore Point Distributing, Inc. and Blue Diamond Disposal were honored as New Jersey's 2018 NGV Champions, for their commitment to advancing alternative fuel vehicle fleets. Shore Point Distributing hosts NJNG's state-of-the-art CNG refueling station in Freehold and maintains a fleet of 28 Class 8 truck NGVs. Blue Diamond Disposal, based in Mount Arlington (Morris County), offers commercial, industrial and residential waste and recycling services throughout Northern New Jersey with a fleet that is 90 percent NGV, including 45 heavy-duty refuse trucks and 5 light-duty pick-up trucks.

Event partners and sponsors also included the American Public Gas Association, the American Gas Association, and New Jersey Clean Cities.
