ADT Helps Canadian Customers Survive Fast-Moving Fire

BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ADT Inc. ADT, the leading provider of monitored security and interactive home and business automation solutions in the United States and Canada, celebrated a LifeSaver event today in Winnipeg, Manitoba where two residents and their dogs narrowly-escaped a raging house fire.

It was a terrifying night that Richard Wagner and Nate Schnerch will never forget. Awakened by their ADT smoke detector, Richard and Nate ran from their home as it was being consumed by flames.

"The sound was like a jet roaring," said Wagner. "It was surreal watching the house burn and many of our possessions literally go up in smoke."

Receiving the alarm signal at one of ADT's Customer Care Centers in Canada was Gloria Renato who called the home to confirm the fire and then dispatched local firefighters. Wagner credits her actions and the home's ADT security system for preventing a tragedy.

"If we didn't have ADT, we would have been overwhelmed with smoke in our sleep and this would have been a different story," Wagner said.

Wagner and Schnerch met Renato for the first time at today's LifeSaver celebration where she was awarded a LifeSaver, ADT's highest recognition. Presenting the award, as well as a check for $5,000 to the St. Andrews Fire Department, was Stephen Hopkins, President of ADT Canada.

"We are pleased the fire department will use the funds to help educate the public about fire safety," said Hopkins. "With winter approaching, there will be more risk for home fires."

According to the Manitoba Fire Commissioner there were 789 residential fires last year in the province resulting in 11 deaths. National Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7-13 in Manitoba.
