ANTM today was named to the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), a recognition of the company's commitment to creating a better healthcare future by supporting strong communities, equal opportunities and a healthier environment for all. Anthem is recognized on the DJSI as a Health Care Providers & Services company. The DJSI represents the gold standard for corporate sustainability and is based on an analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance. The DJSI is published annually by S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM, a sustainable asset management firm.

  • Adopting the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Standards which help organizations understand and communicate their impact on critical environmental and social issues.
  • Achieving a 22% reduction in Anthem's greenhouse gas footprint since baseline 2013, a 34% reduction in water use since baseline 2013 and 55% recycling of ongoing office waste from landfills in 2017.
  • Increasing certified diverse spend to $510 million with businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans, service-disabled veterans, the LGBT community and people with disabilities through our supplier diversity program.
  • Investing a significant amount in human capital development, averaging 25.5 hours of training and development per employee in 2017.
  • Supporting community health initiatives, together with the Anthem Foundation, including behavioral health and substance use disorder interventions; cancer care, maternal and child health; and immunizations.
