TAMPA, Fla., July 3, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass announced in May 2018 the appointment of Allen Brinkman II to the bank's Tampa Bay market advisory board.

As a board director, Brinkman will leverage his local expertise in risk and investment management and multi-industry banking experience to provide BBVA Compass with market insight and strategic consultation to bolster its presence in the Tampa Bay metro area.

Brinkman brings over two decades of banking experience, where he spent the last seven years as chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust Bank's Florida division. In his former role at SunTrust, he had asset responsibility of over $40 billion, and under his leadership, the bank's Florida operations contributed 33 percent of revenues for SunTrust Bank Holding Company.

In August 2017, Brinkman transitioned from the banking sector to the technology industry, taking on the role as president of Lumina Analytics, a big data risk mitigation firm that leverages artificial intelligence to provide risk management services to government agencies. Atlantic Merchant Capital Investors of Tampa, where Brinkman is currently the president and managing director, is a private merchant bank which capitalized Lumina Analytics.

Brinkman is an active member on many of Tampa's civic boards, including serving as Chairman of the Board for the Tampa Bay Partnership and Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. Brinkman is a graduate of Columbus University and University of Georgia. Further advanced educational studies have been with Emory University Goizueta Business School, Massachusetts institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management and Duke University Fuqua School of Business.
