REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Sept. 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- iPass Inc. IPAS, a leading provider of global mobile connectivity, today announced that it has extended its partnership with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the flag carrier of Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and the largest airline in Scandinavia. An airline industry first, customers will be able to purchase monthly access to the iPass global Wi-Fi network as a standalone service through SAS. By doing so, customers can get unlimited access to millions of Wi-Fi hotspots in locations such as airports, hotels, cafés restaurants, and more worldwide.

To enable the new offering, iPass is working with global IoT/MVNO enabler Teleena, which manages the service setup and the full service delivery for all customers on the iPass network.

In the coming months, the partnership will be extended, so the approximately 5 million SAS EuroBonus loyalty members earn points from the purchase of Wi-Fi connectivity.

"SAS is taking an exciting step in becoming the first airline to offer truly global connectivity to its customers, and we hope it won't be the last," said Gary Griffiths, CEO of iPass. "Internet connectivity has become another essential service demanded by travelers, just like car hire and accommodation, and it could become an important new revenue stream and competitive differentiator in this hotly contested market. SAS is getting out ahead of the pack by enabling business and leisure travelers to stay connected."

Didrik Fjeldstad, VP Brand & Marketing at SAS: "We already know the value of offering global Wi-Fi connectivity to our employees. Working with iPass and Teleena, we are delighted to be the first airline to offer our customers unlimited global Wi-Fi, helping them to stay connected without running up huge mobile roaming bills. Time matters for our travelers, and we keep finding solutions that will make the travel easier for our travelers.  We look forward to extending the offering of the services to other customer segments in the coming months."

Kim Bybjerg CEO of Teleena: "We are delighted to have extended our partnership with iPass and SAS. With no airline having provided such a service before, this is an exciting and unique project to be a part of. iPass and SAS needed a partner it could trust to support the seamless roll-out of this new service to the SAS global customer base, and it is a great fit for our mission of connecting everything and everybody, always and everywhere."

The service is available immediately and is also available for purchase by anyone on the website www.businessclasswifi.com, whether they are travelling with the airline or not.
