Students Return to Online Public School on Sept. 6

Students at Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA), an accredited online public school, will begin their 2017-18 school year on Sept. 6, simply by turning on their computers. An Alternative Learning Experience school program of the Omak School District, WAVA is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state of Washington.

Beginning its 12th year of operation, WAVA's rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music. Honors classes are available for high school students, who can also choose from a wide variety of career and technical electives.

State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.

"We take great pride at WAVA of having a community of people to support every student based on his or her unique needs," said Mark Christiano, head of school at Washington Virtual Academy. "One of the things I love most about our school is the close connections our teachers build with our students and their parents."

WAVA also offers two programs that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school: Running Start offers dual enrollment at local colleges, while Tech Prep offers college-level technology or business courses.

Students at every grade level are encouraged to participate in school-sponsored social activities, such as recognition assemblies, clubs, outings and student leadership opportunities.

WAVA is still accepting enrollments for this fall. For more information, please visit http://wava.k12.com.
