Court Rules in Apple's Favor That Galaxy Smartphones Infringe on Patents, Bans Sale

According to FOSS Patents, a Dutch court has ruled in favor of Apple that Samsung's lineup of Galaxy smartphones infringe on Apple-owned patents. The ruling does not affect Samsung's Galaxy line of tablets, however. The Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Ace, all based on Android OS, have now been banned from being sold in the European Union [EU].

This ruling only affects countries where one software patent is valid. With that being said, things will now be more difficult for Samsung as it uses its Korean branch as a center for shipments across Europe.

The ban of Galaxy smartphones in the EU is said to take effect in seven weeks time, but we can basically guarantee that an appeal will be filed by Samsung. The court that made this ruling is said to be "skeptical" about its own decision.
