A Peek Into The Markets: U.S. Stock Futures Up Ahead Of Jobless Claims

Pre-open movers

U.S. stock futures traded higher in early pre-market trade. Data on U.S. international trade in goods for April and initial jobless claims for the latest week will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. The Kansas City's Fed manufacturing index for May is schedule for release at 11:00 a.m. ET. Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard is set to speak in Washington at 10:00 a.m. ET, while St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard will speak in Tokyo at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 68 points to 21,053, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures rose 6.25 points to 2,408.25. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index climbed 18.50 points to 5,749.75.

Oil prices traded lower as Brent crude futures fell 1.32 percent to trade at $53.25 per barrel, while US WTI crude futures dropped 1.46 percent to trade at $53.25 a barrel. The Energy Information Administration’s weekly report on natural gas stocks is schedule for release at 10:30 a.m. ET.


A Peek Into Global Markets

European markets were mostly higher today, with the Spanish Ibex Index gaining 0.42 percent, STOXX Europe 600 Index rising 0.03 percent and German DAX 30 index rising 0.04 percent. The UK's FTSE index was trading lower by 0.01 percent, while French CAC 40 Index climbed 0.17 percent.

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.36 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.80 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.43 percent and India’s BSE Sensex rose 1.48 percent.


Broker Recommendation

Analysts at Credit Suisse upgraded NetApp Inc. NTAP from Underperform to Neutral.

NetApp shares fell 2.30 percent to $38.65 in pre-market trading.
