A Peek Into The Markets: U.S. Stock Futures Edge Higher Ahead Of Import-Price Report

U.S. stock futures traded higher in early pre-market trade. Data on import and export prices for August will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 14 points to 18,023.00, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures gained 2 points to 2,124.25. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index rose 8.50 points to 4,732.50.

Oil prices traded higher as Brent crude futures rose 0.30 percent to trade at $47.24 per barrel, while US WTI crude futures also rose 0.37 percent to trade at $45.65 a barrel. The Energy Information Administration’s weekly report on petroleum inventories is schedule for release at 10:30 a.m. ET.

A Peek Into Global Markets

European markets were higher today, with the Spanish Ibex Index rising 0.15 percent, STOXX Europe 600 Index gaining 0.39 percent and German DAX 30 index gaining 0.42 percent. The UK's FTSE index was trading higher by 0.60 percent, while French CAC 40 Index rose 0.08 percent.

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average fell 0.69 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.11 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.68 percent and India’s BSE Sensex rose 0.07 percent.

Broker Recommendation

Analysts at Citigroup upgraded Macy's Inc M from Neutral to Buy.

Macy's shares rose 2.28 percent to $35.47 in pre-market trading.
