UPDATE: Union Pacific Posts Higher Q4 Profit

reported a gain in its fourth-quarter profit. Union Pacific's quarterly profit surged to $1.17 billion, or $2.55 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $1.04 billion, or $2.19 per share. Its operating income surged 14% to $1.97 billion. Its total operating revenue climbed 7% to $5.63 billion versus $5.25 billion. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $2.49 per share on revenue of $5.57 billion. Union Pacific shares closed at $168.50 yesterday.
