posted a loss in the fiscal fourth quarter. Spectrum Brands posted a quarterly loss of $36.7 million, or $0.70 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $5.5 million, or $0.10 per share. Excluding one-time items, its earnings increased to $0.88 per share from $0.83 per share. Its sales climbed 37% to $1.14 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.87 per share on sales of $1.13 billion. Spectrum Brands shares closed at $63.84 yesterday.
