posted a loss in the fiscal fourth quarter. Cal-Maine posted a quarterly loss of $3.83 million, or $0.16 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $37.3 million, or $1.56 per share. Excluding one-time items, its adjusted earnings climbed to $0.55 per share from $0.44 per share. Its sales increased 18% to $325.9 million, while gross margin improved to 15.8% from 15%. Cal-Maine shares closed at $51.05 on Friday.
