Earnings Expectations for the Week of June 3

Things will be fairly quiet on the earnings front this week, offering little to draw attention away from the wave of employment data due out, as well as such economic data as the ISM surveys and the latest PMI figures. But here is a quick look at the expectations for some of the week's most prominent quarterly reports.
Brown-Forman
In its report early Wednesday,

, is expected to post fiscal fourth-quarter earnings that slipped about six percent from the year-ago period to $0.46 per share. Full-year earnings per share (EPS) from this maker of Jack Daniels is forecast to be more than 11 percent higher to $2.68. Revenues from this Louisville, Kentucky-based maker and exporter of wines and distilled spirits are forecast to total $ 861.73 million for the most recent quarter and $3.78 billion for the fiscal year. That would be up more than seven percent and more than four percent, respectively.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store
Fiscal third-quarter earnings from

are forecast to come to $0.94 per share in Monday's report. That that would be up more than eight percent from the year-ago period. That consensus estimate is unchanged from 60 days ago. This Tennessee-based purveyor of comfort food and nostalgia beat analysts' EPS expectations by more than 14 percent in the second quarter. Quarterly revenues are predicted to total $630.56 million, which would be less than four percent higher relative to a year ago. And thus far, revenues and EPS are expected to have slipped year-over-year in the current quarter as well.
Dollar General
Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based

is expected to say that earnings rose more than 11 percent year-over-year to $0.86 per share, while revenues were up more than eight percent to $4.24 billion for its first quarter of 2013. Analyst sentiment on this variety store operator has been steady, as the consensus EPS forecast has not changed in the past 60 days. But analysts have underestimated Dollar General's per-share earnings in the past six quarters. Look for the earnings report Tuesday morning.
J. M. Smucker
Fourth-quarter fiscal 2013 earnings from

are expected to come to $1.15 per share, on revenues of $1.34 billion. In the same quarter of the previous year, the maker of Folgers, Jif, Crisco and many other branded products exceeded consensus EPS estimates when it posted $1.10 on sales of $1.36 billion. Full-year EPS are estimated to come to $5.24 while revenues totaled $5.90 billion. That would be up more than nine percent and almost seven percent, respectively, from the previous year. The company is scheduled to share its results Thursday before the markets open.

, a McLean, Virginia-based defense contractor, is expected to report Monday after the closing bell that for its first quarter of fiscal 2014 it saw a profit of $0.26 per share on $2.59 billion in revenue. That would down from the same period in the previous year, when EPS came to $0.35 and revenue totaled $2.78 billion. This provider of scientific, engineering and technical services fell short of analysts' expectations for earnings in two of the past six quarters. The beat in the most recent quarter was by two cents per spare. And so far, EPS and revenue results are predicted to similar in the current quarter.

. Fiscal third-quarter earnings are forecast to come to $0.66 per share in Tuesday afternoon's report. That that would be up more than 10 percent from the year-ago period. Quarterly revenues of this Massachusetts-based maker of medical and security equipment are predicted to total $135.98 million, which would be about 12 percent higher year-over-year.

. Analysts on average expect this networking equipment maker to report early Thursday a net loss of $0.01 per share, while revenue rose marginally year-over-year to $483.34 million, in its second quarter.
VeriFone SystemsPAY
. The consensus forecast calls for EPS to be down more than 26 percent year-over-year to $0.47, with sales more than eight percent lower to $440.29 million, for the fiscal second quarter. The electronic payment services company is scheduled to report Wednesday after the markets close.
Vail ResortsMTN
. This Colorado-based company is expected to say earnings rose more than 20 percent from a year-ago to of $2.74 per share for the fiscal third quarter. Revenue is expected to have grown more than 12 percent year-over-year to $473.46 million. The company will share its results Thursday after the closing bell.
