UMC Posts Higher Q1 Profit

United Microelectronics

reported a rise in its first-quarter net profit. UMC's quarterly net profit surged to 6.59 billion New Taiwan dollars ($222 million), from NT$1.29 billion, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 5.7% to NT$27.78 billion from NT$26.27 billion, while non-operating income rose to NT$7.25 billion from NT$1.01 billion. UMC shares closed at $1.93 yesterday.
