UMC Posts Rise In Q4 Profit

Taiwan's United Microelectronics

posted a rise in its fourth-quarter net profit. UMC's quarterly net profit surged to 1.17 billion New Taiwan dollars ($39.7 million), from NT$980 million, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a profit of NT$1.65 billion. Its revenue climbed 6.8% to NT$26.09 billion from NT$24.43 billion. UMC shares closed at $1.91 yesterday.
