Forget penny stocks. How about a dollar-bill-tossing stripper stock? Do I have your attention now? Ok, grab a pile of greenbacks and follow me to the land of clear heels and skimpy outfits, Rick's Cabaret International
RICK
. Rick's is one of those investments that maybe you keep from your spouse, and just slip in to the portfolio without saying a word. Unless, of course, he or she is down with gyrating women and adult entertainment. Why? Because Rick's owns and operates some businesses that make nuns blush, women hide their kids, and Kobe Bryant to pony up $4 million on a ring for his wife. Speaking of which, this is not some gold-digging, earnings-tease of a stock. Last quarter, Rick's Cabaret brought in $0.29 per share, ahead of its $0.26 estimate. “Despite a big ice storm in Texas that weakened revenues anticipated from this year's Super Bowl compared with 2010, we still did very well for the quarter and we are happy with our overall club results,” said CEO Eric Langan. Rick's is even in the news today, as they announced an agreement to purchase controlling interest in another strip club, this one located just east of downtown Omaha. A subsidiary of Rick's Cabaret also has agreed to purchase the building where the club is located. Consider timing your research and possible investments around today's news cycle. The stock had fallen on tough times recently, as the economic downturn that hit the entire United States market really took a toll on Las Vegas. “We have begun to eliminate losses at our Las Vegas location through the sharp reduction in operations we announced last month as we seek a buyer for the club. We believe that we did everything possible to make the club work, but the Las Vegas market remains troubled and we believe it is now in our shareholders' best interests to exit,” Langan said. “Once our exit from this market it is complete we will have a better idea how we will do for the remainder of the year.” At the very least, it's worth doing a little research into the stock, and if you can swing it, into one or two of the clubs themselves. The company owns and operates, or licenses adult nightclubs in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Fort Worth, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Minneapolis, Minnesota; New York, New York; Miami Gardens, Florida; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Las Vegas, Nevada under the Rick's Cabaret, XTC, Club Onyx, Tootsie’s Cabaret, and Cabaret North names. It also owns and operates various adult entertainment Internet Web sites, including CouplesTouch.com, a personals site for those in the swinging lifestyle; NaughtyBids.com, an online adult auction site that contains consumer-initiated auctions for items, such as adult videos, apparel, photo sets, adult paraphernalia, and other erotica; and xxxPassword.com that features adult content. In addition, the company offers trade magazine serving the adult nightclubs industry, as well as owns 2 industry trade shows, 2 other industry trade publications, and approximately 25 industry websites.
