U.S. Sen Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is calling out Republicans for what he describes as the “Robin Hood principle in reverse”—taking from working people and the poor to give to billionaires. In recent interviews, Sanders has urged Americans to push back against a Republican-backed budget that he says will hand out massive tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans while slashing essential programs like Medicaid, education, and housing.
Rallying Against Tax Breaks for Billionaires
Sanders has launched a national tour, focusing on swing districts where Republican members of Congress won by narrow margins. His goal is to mobilize voters and pressure lawmakers to oppose the budget proposal.

A Slim Republican Majority
Sanders pointed out that Republicans hold only a three-vote majority in the House of Representatives. That means flipping just a couple of votes could stop the bill in its tracks.

Privatization of Social Programs
Sanders warns that beyond tax cuts, there is a broader Republican strategy at play—one that aims to dismantle and privatize key social programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
"At the end of the day, what they want to do is make the case to the American people that the whole government stinks," he said. "Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, all of these programs that help you—they're terrible. And the way forward is to privatize them."
Medicaid Cuts Will Impact Millions
While some may assume Medicaid cuts only affect low-income Americans, Sanders says that's not the case. He points out that Medicaid supports millions of children, community health centers, and even nursing home care for seniors.
