Editor’s Note: This story has been updated with a statement from Cathay Pacific Airways.

Cathay Pacific Airways has completed the inspection of its entire Airbus (OTC:EADSY) A350 fleet after an engine component failure occurred on flight CX383 from Hong Kong to Zurich on Monday several minutes after take-off.

What Happened: The Hong Kong-based airline discovered 15 aircraft that required component replacements after inspecting its A350 fleet. Three of the 48 Rolls-Royce engine-powered planes have already been repaired successfully.

While the issue occurred on one of Cathay Pacific's 18 A350-1000 jets, the company also inspected 30 A350-900 jets as a “precautionary measure.”

Cathay Pacific anticipates all jets will be operational by Saturday. However, the disruption has led to the cancellation of at least 34 flights.

“This component was the first of its type to suffer such failure on any A350 aircraft worldwide,” Cathay Pacific said in a statement to Benzinga.

It is not known whether the parts to be replaced were identified on the A350-1000 or A350-900 jets.

Why It Matters: Despite the issue identified on Monday, the A-350 plane landed back safely in Hong Kong about 75 minutes after take-off. Cathay has not revealed which engine component failed.

Other airlines have not been instructed to examine their planes with similar engines as the one on the Cathay Pacific plane which faced the engine issue, Reuters reported. Other major airlines with A350 planes in their fleet continue to operate them normally.

Other airlines with A350-1000 jets in operation include Qatar Airways, and Britsh Airways, among others.
