E. Jean Carroll, who was awarded $5 million in a rape defamation trial by a Manhattan jury against Donald Trump, said numerous individuals have reached out to her seeking guidance on how to hold their own alleged abusers accountable.
What Happened: Carroll has revealed that she has been inundated with messages from "hundreds" of people, seeking guidance on pursuing legal action against their alleged abusers, reported Business Insider.
"They think, ‘Well, if the former President of the United States can be held liable for sexual abuse, well then maybe my stepfather, maybe my old boss, maybe my ex-boyfriend, maybe that man who lived down the street — maybe I can hold them accountable for ruining my life,'" Carroll told Insider during an interview.
Trump was found liable by a Manhattan jury earlier this month in a civil battery and defamation lawsuit filed against him by Carroll.
According to Carroll, both men and women have reached out to her seeking guidance through her column ‘Ask E. Jean.'
Carroll shared an example of a recent letter she received "from a woman who had been raped repeatedly by her stepfather when she was in sixth grade."
"She wants to know what she should do because she wants to bring a lawsuit,” Carroll told Insider.
Why It Matters: Even though Trump was found liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the 1990s in a department store dressing room, he has repeatedly dismissed the case as false.
Trump even denied any knowledge of Carroll, claiming that he didn't know her at all. He is reported to have told CNN, "This woman, I don’t know her. I never met her. I have no idea who she is."
