Inflation In This Global Region Might Peak Earlier Than In US And Europe, Market Strategist Says

On CNBC, Geoff Howie, market strategist at the Singapore Exchange, said inflation is expected to peak around the world. He added that inflation could peak lower and earlier in Asia than in the U.S. and Europe.

"The consumer growth is still a massive challenge" for the region, Howie mentioned. Export numbers in Korea and Thailand have been declining since May 2021 and are now in the negative zone, he stated.

With China’s economy opening up, much focus is on the current wave of Covid-19 in the country, he added. The country is not reporting the numbers, so the full extent of the pandemic is not known.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva reportedly said on Sunday that 2023 is going to be a tough year for much of the global economy, as the U.S., Europe and China, are all experiencing weakening activity.
