Mid-Day Market Update: Dow Rises Over 100 Points; Jaguar Health Shares Plunge

Midway through trading Tuesday, the Dow traded up 0.53 percent to 26,793.29 while the NASDAQ climbed 0.10 percent to 8,045.10. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.21 percent to 2,930.61.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

On Tuesday, the utilities shares rose 1.36 percent. Meanwhile, top gainers in the sector included Companhia Paranaense de Energia ADR ELP up 10 percent, and Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo SBS up 9 percent.

In trading on Tuesday, financial shares fell 0.35 percent.


Top Headline

PepsiCo, Inc. PEP reported better-than-expected results for its third quarter.

PepsiCo posted quarterly adjusted earnings of $1.59 per share on sales of $16.49 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.57 per share on sales of $16.36 billion.


Equities Trading UP

India Globalization Capital, Inc. IGC shares shot up 52 percent to $13.68.

Shares of Pyxus International, Inc. PYX got a boost, shooting up 31 percent to $30.40 after its Canadian subsidiary, Goldleaf Pharm, received a cannabis cultivation license from Health Canada.

Therapix Biosciences Ltd. TRPX shares were also up, gaining 38 percent to $6.2905.


Equities Trading DOWN

Greenpro Capital Corp. GRNQ shares dropped 29 percent to $7.035 after jumping 157.81 percent on Monday.

Shares of Stitch Fix, Inc. SFIX were down 32 percent to $30.3947. Stitch Fix reported upbeat earnings for its fourth quarter, while sales missed estimates.

Jaguar Health, Inc. JAGX was down, falling around 23 percent to $0.6460. Jaguar Health priced its 15 million common share offering at $0.60 per share.


Commodities


In commodity news, oil traded down 0.11 percent to $75.22 while gold traded up 1.42 percent to $1,208.60.

Silver traded up 1.99 percent Tuesday to $14.795, while copper rose 0.91 to $2.813.



Eurozone

European shares were lower today. The eurozone’s STOXX 600 dipped 0.52 percent, the Spanish Ibex Index fell 1.08 percent, while Italy’s FTSE MIB Index declined 0.23 percent. Meanwhile the German DAX dropped 0.42 percent, and the French CAC 40 fell 0.71 percent while U.K. shares fell 0.28 percent.

Economics

Data on motor vehicle sales for September will be released today.
